Our Approach

Engagement, Mastery, Analysis & Application (EMAA@Oasis)

Mathematics is taught via a 3-stage approach, EMMA@Oasis to ensure strong foundation, early success, bite-sized achievement and steady progress.

During Engagement, our students are taught through experiential learning such as CPA approach, Learning Experiences, Literature Experiences and Assembly Talks to ensure early success.

During the Mastery phase, customised curriculum and differentiated instructions are done to ensure steady progress in our students’ learning via meaningful and deliberate practices.

To nurture confident problem solvers, more customised programmes are done during the Analysis and Application phase to ensure transference of learning to problem solving as well as to challenge our students to greater heights. Pedagogies such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Collaborative Learning (COL), Self-directed Learning (SDL), Experiential, Interdisciplinary and Place-based Learning are weaved into these 3 phases.

Concrete_Pictorial_Abstract (CPA)

Mathematics is taught via Concrete_Pictorial_Abstract (CPA) approach where students are engaged in different learning experiences with the use of manipulatives to understand different concepts. After this, the students move on to pictorial and/or abstract to develop strong foundation and ensure early success.

Key Programmes

Math Around Us

Math Around Us uses the Place-based Learning approach to provide students with opportunities to apply mathematical concepts and critical thinking. Through problem solving and exploration of the physical school environment, students make connections between their learning and real-world applications. During these hands-on, students work collaboratively in groups and uses mathematical vocabulary to communicate and reason.

Strengthening Mathematical Learning through Integration of Literature Experiences (SMILE)

SMILE is a literature-based approach to develop strong conceptual understanding, reasoning and communication in Mathematics. Through authentic contexts and stories, students make meaning of mathematical contexts, deepen their conceptual understanding as well as reason and communicate during the lessons. When mathematical concepts are presented in the form of stories using pictures and familiar language, they enable our students to grasp mathematical ideas and concepts easily. The stories also serve as contexts for discussion of mathematics and catalysts for our students to make connections to applications in the real world. Such stories also serve as vehicles for authentic problem solving.

Inverted classroom for Deep Autonomous Learning (IDEAL)

IDEAL leverages on the Flipped Learning pedagogical approach in which direct instruction and self-directed learning is done remotely via ICT at home. After this, the students are guided to reason, communicate, analyse and apply concepts through collaborative learning in class.

Math Games & Carnival

This initiative aims to celebrate the joy and wonder of math and foster mathematical thinking and logical and critical thinking skills in students. Not only are students exposed to math puzzles such as sudoku and tangrams, students are also taught to design math games. Selected students also helm booths at our annual Math Carnival where they invite all students to play their self-designed math games. Our own teachers have also led the way by designing a board game “Math Quest Mall” as a dynamic way for students to apply the math concepts and skills learnt!

E2K Mathematics Programme

The Excellence 2000 (E2K) Mathematics Programme is an enrichment programme for selected Primary 4 and Primary 5 students who demonstrate interest and aptitude in Mathematics. The programme aims to develop students’ mathematical reasoning skills and deepens their conceptual understanding through an inquiry approach.

Students collaborating with their peers and engaging in problem-solving through mathematical experiences specially designed for the E2K Mathematics programme.

Math Olympiad Programme

The Math Olympiad Programme is an enrichment programme for selected Primary 4 to Primary 6 students who demonstrate interest and aptitude in Mathematics. This programme aims to prepare students for Primary Math Olympiad competitions and develop students’ mathematical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
