Goal of Oasis Arts Education

Develop artistically literate students who participate actively and purposefully in the arts within and beyond school

Purpose for engaging in the arts:

The arts as communication

To be able to express one’s own ideas creatively and confidently through an artistic work and respond to artistic works by analysing and interpreting artistic intents of others

The arts as social and cultural connectors

To relate the arts to daily living and see connectedness between the arts and other fields of knowledge

The arts as creative and intellectual engagement

To participate in creative work and discourse as creators, performers and audience members and develop personal creative & intellectual capacity.

The arts as developing leadership and impacting the community

To be able to initiate, connect and serve in communities within and beyond school, creating a positive impact on the lives of others

1. HOLISTIC ARTS APPROACH THROUGH CCC

Pursue a holistic learning approach that incorporates 3 artistic processes in all arts programmes – namely, Connecting, Creating & Communicating.

2. ARTS EDUCATION TALENT PROGRESSION

Adopt a whole-school Arts Education approach in Visual Art, Music, Dance & Drama, through curricular, co-curricular and special programmes. Below is the Arts Education Talent Progression to provide arts opportunities for all and for some developing passion and mastery in an arts domain.

Stage 1: Developing Awareness

Students to become aware of the range of cultural and contemporary arts that are relevant to the diversity of our local and global cultures.

Stage 2: Developing Foundation

Students to learn and explore in more than 1 art forms to create, study and relate to context of art works and show developing creative works to friends.

Stage 3: Developing Mastery

Students to apply artistic tools and technique learnt in at least one art form to create, articulate connection of works to its context, and communicate and realise artistic ideas in a curated showcase.

The Art Curriculum

In line with MOE’s standards, the Art Education @Oasis aims to:

• Develop students to be visually literate to observe, understand and make meaning of what they see; and to communicate their ideas by using and creating visuals.

• Develop an appreciation for art by seeing the value and recognising the relevance of art in their lives.

Art lessons @Oasis studies a huge range of artists’ works and its cultural contexts in different time period and location, gives students the tools to access art not just intuitively but also technically. The 3 artistic processes - Connecting, Creating and Communicating - undergird the classroom pedagogy and is in line with the skills and values standards in the MOE Art syllabus. Students are connecting by analyzing meaning and relating artistic ideas to its context, creating by imagining and developing new artistic ideas, and communicating by presenting their artistic ideas and works through in-progress classroom gallery displays or exhibitions.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been infused in the teaching pedagogy not only for students to develop self-directedness in their learning, but also skillful users of technology tools in Art-learning.

The Music Curriculum

In line with MOE’s standards, the Music Education @Oasis aims to:

a.    Develop awareness and appreciation of music in local and global cultures

b.    Develop ability for creative expression and communication through music

c.    Provide the basis to develop an informed and life-long involvement in music

Music lessons @Oasis studies music and its cultural contexts in different time and location, gives students the tools to access music technically and intuitively, and play several instruments. The 3 artistic processes – Connecting, Creating and Communicating – undergird the classroom pedagogy. Students are connecting by analyzing meaning and relating musical ideas to its context, creating by imagining and developing new musical ideas, and communicating by presenting their musical ideas through in-progress performances.

To help our students make more sensitive connections between Music and their daily living, an interdisciplinary approach has also been incorporated into the curriculum. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been infused in the teaching pedagogy not only for students to develop self-directedness in their learning, but also skillful users of technology tools in Music-making.
